ミクシィと、ディー・エヌ・エーが運営するモバゲーが覇を競ってきたＳＮＳ（交流サイト）業界が、三国時代に突入している。
二強を猛追するのが、２００４年に創業したグリーだ。今年４月には会員数が１０００万人を突破し、ミクシィの１７００万人、モバゲーの１４００万人に迫る。業績もうなぎ上りで、０９年６月期の営業利益は前期比では約７倍、７５億円に急拡大する見込み。対してミクシィの営業利益は３７・７億円と横ばい、ディー・エヌ・エーは前期比２５％増の１５８億円（両社とも０９年３月期）と伸びは続くものの、かつての勢いは衰えた。こうしたスピードの違いはどこから来ているのか。

明暗を分けたのは課金ビジネスの成果だ。グリーの収益源は携帯ゲームで遊ぶときに使うアイテムの販売だが、単純なプログラムゆえに原価はほぼゼロ。ライバルと比べてもず抜けた利益率を誇っている。
