売上高460億ドル、iPhoneの販売台数3700万台、iPad1500万台。上のグラフは、Francesco SchwarzがAppleとAsymcoのデータを元に作ったもので（インタラクティブ版はこちら）、Appleにとってこの四半期がいかに桁外れであったかがよくわかる。
今四半期はiPhoneとiPadが動かした。それはグラフの青と赤の線で示されたそれぞれの販売台数を見ればわかる。iPhoneの販売台数は前期の1700万台から3700万台へと増えた。一四半期で2倍以上の増加だ。
しかし、iPadの線をよく見てほしい。私も初めて気付いたのだが、今期Appleが売ったiPadの数は、昨期に売ったiPhoneの数とほぼ同じだ。そして今やiPadはiPodと同じくらい売れている。あの赤い線は昇り続けていくだろう。いつかiPhoneに追い付くことがあるのだろうか。
